John Humble. 38

The book, Plan for the Planet – A Business Plan for a Sustainable World, is targeted at politicians, business managers, students and community members who possess the desire to address the increasing global challenges this generation is faced with. Structured in five parts, the book is based on key best practice management principles, and highlights the need for more intelligent, faster, and collaborative action by government, businesses, communities and individuals in order to “avert the potential devastating impacts on this planet” from threats to global sustainability. In doing so, Plan for the Planet presents a coordinated approach to dealing with the current global challenges that can be carried out at every level. “The world struggles with increasing threats to global sustainability, caused by population growth, overuse of fresh water resources, depletion of biodiversity, and reliance on non-renewable energy sources”, stated Gower Publishing. “The challenge for our generation is to use our vast capabilities to our best advantage and collaboratively build the sustainable future that, despite what some will have us believe, we have the capacity to achieve”, added the publisher. Authored by Ian Chambers and the late John Humble, Plan for the Planet provides practical examples of the methods being undertaken by businesses and individuals in their embracing of the global sustainability agenda. I met John humble when he was a senior manager at Ford South Africa in the late seventies (1970's). He impressed me a lot. He was driving MBO as a management strategy.
